THE FLAWS drawings, variable formats, 2024-2026
This work explores, above all, the fragility of life. Composed of varied forms—plants, skin or mountain surfaces, abstract reliefs in sketchbooks—this hybrid work seeks to establish a dialogue between concrete matter and a certain fluidity, evoking an ephemeral, transient state. Boundaries are forged, and perhaps unexpected connections emerge between the observed trace and the presumed imprint. The whole aims to create an archive of observation.
By placing objects (the starting points for the drawings) at the very heart of this work, I seek an interaction where nature integrates with the medium. Thus, the pencil line becomes an extension of a real branch, blurring the boundary between tangible volume and the flatness of the line. This extension creates new forms, with light and shadows (projected by the placed objects) disrupting the objective precision of the line. It is no longer a drawing from nature, but a fluid organization that changes with the passage of time and the changing light, where the subject fades into the background, giving way to the vibration of light, and where the white space of the page is no longer a void, but a necessary silence.
The choice of subjects—bare twigs, pebbles, surface textures, or bark—seeks a form of starkness: these are elements of life that are often overlooked, things of little consequence, insignificant, commonplace, and ordinary. The interplay of framing and incisions within the drawing itself underscores this rupture: the role of the human hand. These scattered clues (cuts, doublings or shifts) speak of the body of nature, fragmented, dismembered, where space is delimited, parcelled out, consumed by a humanity that considers it as its property.
